Skydiving Safety - How do you do your Gear Check?

*

Skydiving gear check is an important concept for every skydiver. This is taught right away in the first courses a wanna be solo skydiver is taking. Even though we do jump with a lot of safety elements on our gear, if it’s not pack properly or not in good condition, the equipment is at risk of not doing its job of saving your life!

So the gear check needs to become part of every skydive and even multiple times per jump. There are multiple elements to verify on our gear every time, for example, the pins, the handles, the overall condition of the rig and so on. Moreover, the gear check has to be done multiple time because in a jump preparation, there are many instance where things can move, for example, when putting the gear on, when rubbing against each other in the plane (Yes, we are often very tight in a plane as you know!).

" Did I Forget to check my Pin "

This video showcase an example of a good gear check including the number one trick to never fail it and how many times you should do it before a jump. As this is an example of a good practice, you should always consider verifying your method with a rigger, an instructor or the equipment manufacturer to get  the best practice for your own equipment.

Enjoy and do not hesitate to share to your friends skydivers so that we all become safer skydivers!

  • It’s helpful to know what we’ll be taught during the first course of skydiving. Recently, my sister and I decided that we want to go skydiving together for our next birthday, so I believe that your guide will help us out. Thanks for the insight on verifying our gear a few times before jumping. http://www.skydiveelsinore.com
